How to Exfoliate Your Skin

No matter your age, you desire fresh, healthy-looking skin. Getting rid of dead skin cells smooths out wrinkles and gives your skin a fresh, clean look. Learn how to exfoliate your skin so that it appears healthier and looks younger.
First: Prepare your skin
Prep your skin for the exfoliation process by using exfoliating brushes, exfoliating gloves or a loofah. Begin with the bottoms of your feet, and move up your body; this loosens dead skin cells for easier removal.
Second: Scrub gently
Step into your shower or bath, and get completely wet. Use grainy cleansers that contain ingredients like ground almonds, sea salt and oatmeal to exfoliate your skin. For a homemade version, mix together olive oil, lemon juice and sea salt, or use powdered milk and ground almonds just as you would if you purchased a name brand moisturizer from the market. Apply your exfoliating body cleanser to your exfoliating brush, gloves or loofah; for a milder exfoliation, use a washcloth. Use gentle circular motions to scrub your body. Also, use a pumice stone on the roughest areas your skin like your heels.
Third: Apply lotion
Following the exfoliation process, put on a lotion that contains alpha or beta hydroxy acids. This type of lotion furthers the exfoliation process and removes more dead skin cells.
Fourth: Use moisturizer
It is important to apply body moisturizers daily. Exfoliating the skin on a regular basis dries it out considerably, so it is important to replenish it with moisturizers. If you do not replace the moisture lost during the exfoliation process, then it damages your skin even more.
